Fan Cooling Fault

Vacon · 100 FLOW Application Guide

What does 32 mean?

This fault indicates an issue with the cooling fan, either its speed does not accurately match the reference (for MR7 and larger drives) or its estimated lifetime (50,000 h) has expired. Inadequate cooling can lead to drive overheating, reduced performance, and eventual damage.

Common Causes

  • Cooling fan motor (e.g., located on the heatsink) has failed, is jammed, or is operating at a significantly reduced speed.
  • Fan speed feedback sensor (if applicable for larger drives like MR7) is faulty or disconnected, preventing accurate speed monitoring.
  • Accumulation of dust, debris, or foreign objects obstructing the fan blades or airflow path through the heatsink.
  • Estimated fan lifetime (e.g., 50,000 hours) has expired, prompting a proactive replacement message.
  • Insufficient auxiliary power supply (e.g., 24VDC) to the cooling fan motor or its control circuit.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Visually inspect the cooling fan(s) for any physical obstructions, broken blades, or signs of sluggish operation when the drive is powered on.

  2. 2

Measure the voltage supplied to the cooling fan (e.g., 24VDC or 230VAC) at its connector when the drive is commanded to run.

  3. 3

Clear any dust or debris from the heatsink fins and fan blades using compressed air, while observing appropriate safety precautions.

  4. 4

Reset the fan operating hours counter (e.g., P8-10 Fan Lifetime Counter) after physically replacing the cooling fan unit.

  5. 5

Confirm that the drive's ambient operating temperature is within specification (e.g., 0-50°C) to prevent excessive thermal load on the fan.
