The oil aging sensor signals a fault, indicating that the gear unit oil has degraded to a critical level. Continued operation with aged oil can lead to premature wear of gears and bearings, increased friction, and eventual gear unit failure.

• Severe and prolonged operation beyond the oil's useful life without replacement, leading to critical viscosity loss.
• Significant thermal stress causing rapid oxidation and breakdown of the oil's additives, resulting in acid formation.
• Extensive contamination of the oil (e.g., water ingress >500 ppm), drastically reducing lubrication and protective properties.
• Mechanical wear within the gearbox generating excessive metallic particles (e.g., >100 ppm iron), accelerating oil degradation.
• Failure of the oil aging sensor itself, providing an erroneous critical fault signal (e.g., internal component failure).

   1. Immediately cease operation of the gear unit to prevent further mechanical damage.
