Braking Resistor Overload Protection

Omron · MX2 Inverter

¿Qué significa E06 ?

This fault indicates that the regenerative braking resistor has been overloaded, typically due to excessive or continuous energy dissipation from the motor. The inverter monitors the usage rate of the braking resistor (b090) and trips to prevent damage to the resistor and associated components.

Causas comunes

  • Braking resistor sized too small (insufficient power rating or resistance) for the application's regenerative energy requirements.
  • Frequent deceleration cycles or continuous regenerative operation, causing the resistor to overheat.
  • Braking resistor cooling compromised (e.g., blocked ventilation, high ambient temperature surrounding the resistor).
  • Braking function parameters (e.g., P2-01 Resistor resistance, P2-02 Resistor power rating) incorrectly set, leading to inaccurate thermal model.
  • Malfunctioning braking transistor or control circuit, causing continuous activation or delayed deactivation of the resistor.

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

Measure the actual resistance of the braking resistor using a multimeter and compare it to the value set in Parameter P2-01.

  2. 2

Inspect the braking resistor for physical damage, discoloration, or signs of overheating and ensure it's properly rated.

  3. 3

Verify that the braking resistor's continuous power rating (Parameter P2-02) matches the installed resistor and is adequate for the application.

  4. 4

Increase the deceleration time (Parameter P1-11) to reduce the frequency and intensity of regenerative events.

  5. 5

Check the ambient temperature around the braking resistor and ensure proper ventilation, clearing any obstructions to airflow.
