Short circuit or earth leakage at the motor end

Lenze · i550 Protec Drive

¿Qué significa 0x2320 ?

This fault occurs due to a short circuit or earth fault of the motor cable, or if the capacitive charging current of the motor cable is excessively high. The inverter immediately disables the drive, allowing the motor to coast.

Causas comunes

  • Insulation breakdown of motor cable conductors (phase-to-phase or phase-to-ground) due to mechanical stress or aging.
  • Contamination (e.g., moisture, conductive dust, metal particles) at motor or inverter terminals creating a short-circuit path.
  • Motor winding insulation failure, leading to a phase-to-ground or phase-to-phase short inside the motor.
  • Excessively long motor cable length, resulting in high capacitive charging currents exceeding the inverter's tolerance.
  • Damage to the motor cable shielding or improper grounding, compromising earth fault detection.

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

De-energize the drive and lock out power at the main disconnect.

  2. 2

Disconnect the motor cable from both the inverter output terminals (U, V, W) and the motor input terminals (U1, V1, W1).

  3. 3

Perform an insulation resistance test (megger test) on each motor cable conductor to ground and between conductors (e.g., at 500VDC or 1000VDC); verify readings are above 1 MOhm.

  4. 4

Inspect motor terminals (U1, V1, W1, PE) and inverter output terminals (U, V, W, PE) for signs of arcing, carbon tracking, or conductive debris.

  5. 5

Measure motor winding insulation resistance to ground using a megger; ensure values are acceptable (e.g., >1MOhm).

  6. 6

If the motor cable is long, verify its length does not exceed the maximum specified in the inverter's manual (often governed by parameter P0-23 for motor cable length); consider adding an output filter if necessary.
