External warning 2
ABB · ACS880
What does A982 mean?
A fault has occurred in an external device connected to the drive's external event input 2. This general warning indicates an issue with peripheral equipment that the drive is monitoring. The drive continues to operate, but the external device needs attention.
Common Causes
- An external overload relay or thermal protection device connected to digital input DI2 has tripped.
- A critical process sensor's alarm output (e.g., low level switch, differential pressure switch) connected to DI2 has activated.
- Auxiliary equipment status (e.g., pump running, fan stopped) monitored via DI2 has changed to an alert state.
- Loose or corroded connection at drive terminal DI2 or at the external device's output, causing an intermittent signal loss.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Identify the external device connected to drive digital input DI2 (via parameter P5-02 'DI2 function').
- 2
Check the status LEDs or display on the external device (e.g., overload relay) to confirm its operational state.
- 3
Measure the voltage at drive terminal DI2 and compare it to the expected state (e.g., 24VDC for active, 0VDC for inactive).
- 4
Trace the wiring from the external device to drive terminal DI2, inspecting for physical damage or loose terminals.
