FPGA version incompatible
ABB · ACS880
What does 6181 mean?
The firmware installed on the control board is incompatible with the FPGA logic version on the power unit. This mismatch can occur after updates where one component was updated but the other was not, preventing proper communication and control between the two main drive components. This issue prevents the drive from operating.
Common Causes
- Control board firmware updated without corresponding update to the FPGA configuration file on the power unit.
- Downgrade of control board firmware to a version that requires an older FPGA logic, which is no longer present.
- Corruption during a partial update where the FPGA logic programming failed.
- Incorrect firmware package selected for the specific hardware revision of the drive (e.g., different part numbers).
- Hardware replacement of either the control board or power board with an incompatible revision.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Record the current firmware version of the control unit (e.g., P0-02) and FPGA logic version (e.g., P0-03).
- 2
Download the latest compatible firmware package that includes both control board firmware and FPGA logic.
- 3
Perform a combined firmware update procedure for both the control board and the power unit FPGA.
- 4
If a combined update is not possible, individually update the component that is out of date.
- 5
Verify successful update by checking the reported FPGA logic version (e.g., P0-03) after the update.
