Control panel loss
ABB · ACS580
What does 7081 mean?
The control panel or PC tool, configured as the active control location, has ceased communication with the drive. This results in a loss of local control and monitoring capabilities, potentially stopping the drive or preventing startup.
Common Causes
- Control panel cable disconnected or damaged (e.g., RJ-45 or proprietary connector).
- Control panel power supply failure (e.g., internal 24VDC rail on the drive for the panel connection).
- Communication port on the drive's control unit (e.g., USB, Ethernet, or serial for the panel) has failed.
- PC tool (e.g., Drive Composer) lost connection due to PC crash, network issue, or USB cable fault.
- Parameter P1-01 (Control location selection) is set to 'External' and the external command source is lost, overriding panel control.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Verify the control panel cable is securely connected to both the panel and the drive's designated port.
- 2
Test the control panel on another known good drive, or swap it with a spare panel to isolate the issue to the panel itself.
- 3
Measure the voltage at the drive's control panel port (e.g., 24VDC between specific pins) to confirm power supply.
- 4
If using a PC tool, restart the PC, re-establish the USB or Ethernet connection, and verify network settings (e.g., IP address on P7-08).
- 5
If the fault is intermittent, check for EMI interference by ensuring proper cable shielding and grounding for the control panel cable.
