Process Voltage Too High
ABB · AC500
What does 16138 mean?
This error indicates that the measured process voltage supplied to the safety I/O module or its channels exceeds the permissible operating limits. This overvoltage condition can damage the module or connected components if not addressed promptly, posing a risk to system integrity.
Common Causes
- The process voltage supplied to the safety I/O module's power terminals (e.g., L+ and M) exceeds the module's maximum input rating (e.g., >30VDC).
- Malfunction of the external power supply unit (PSU), causing it to output an overvoltage.
- Incorrect wiring of the process voltage supply, inadvertently connecting to a higher voltage source.
- Transient overvoltage spike on the supply line due to switching inductive loads or external disturbances.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
1. Immediately measure the voltage at the process voltage input terminals (e.g., L+ and M) of the safety I/O module with a multimeter.
- 2
2. Check the output voltage of the power supply unit (PSU) feeding the safety I/O module.
- 3
3. Verify the wiring connections from the PSU to the safety I/O module for correct voltage routing.
- 4
4. Implement surge protection devices or line filters on the process voltage supply if transient spikes are suspected.
- 5
5. If the module has been subjected to prolonged overvoltage, replace the safety I/O module as internal components may be damaged.
