Switch-on is inhibited
Siemens · SINAMICS G120
What does A01696 mean?
The drive is unable to switch on and remains in the READY state because its start is inhibited. This can be caused by a deactivated gate driver, an active safety function such as Safe Torque Off (STO), Safe Stop 1 (SS1), or Safe Limited Speed (SLS), or another inhibit condition, preventing motor operation.
Common Causes
- Safe Torque Off (STO) function is actively engaged via safety inputs (e.g., F-DI0, F-DI1 at X150), preventing the gate drivers from being enabled.
- Another active safety function (e.g., Safe Operating Stop (SOS), Safe Stop 1 (SS1)) is preventing the drive from being enabled.
- General drive enable signal (e.g., configured via P0840) is not active or is set to a disabling state from the control system.
- Internal drive fault preventing gate driver activation, possibly related to an internal hardware watchdog or safety processor issue.
- External enable signal (e.g., DI0, DI1) not present at the drive's control terminals (X100 or X101) when required for operation.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
1. Verify the status of the Safe Torque Off (STO) input signals (e.g., F-DI0, F-DI1 at X150) and ensure they are active (e.g., 24VDC) to enable STO release.
- 2
2. Check the status of all active safety functions (e.g., r0947, r0948) and ensure no safety function is requesting an inhibited state.
- 3
3. Confirm that the main enable command (e.g., associated with P0840) is received and active from the control system (e.g., PLC or HMI).
- 4
4. Inspect the status of general digital inputs (e.g., DI0, DI1 at X101) to ensure the drive receives the necessary run commands.
- 5
5. Power cycle the drive by disconnecting and reconnecting the main supply voltage, then re-evaluate the drive's readiness for operation.
