¿Qué significa F3 ?
The earth fault protection ensures that the sum of the output phase currents is not zero, indicating a current leakage to ground. This protection works in conjunction with overcurrent protection for high current earth faults. An unaddressed earth fault poses a significant safety hazard and can cause severe damage to the drive or motor.
Causas comunes
- Insulation breakdown in the motor windings, leading to a direct path from a phase to the motor frame (ground).
- Damage to the motor cable insulation, causing one or more phases to short to the cable's shielding or conduit (ground).
- Moisture ingress or contamination (e.g., conductive dust, oil) in the motor terminal box or drive output terminals.
- Incorrect grounding practices for the motor, cable shielding, or drive, creating an unintentional ground path.
- Internal leakage to ground within the drive's output stage (e.g., faulty IGBT module).

Disconnect the motor from the drive output terminals (U, V, W) and the motor earth connection.

Using a megohmmeter, measure the insulation resistance from each motor phase (U, V, W) to the motor frame (earth). A reading below 1 Mohm indicates a motor insulation fault.

If the motor is OK, measure insulation resistance from each motor cable phase conductor to the cable shield/conduit (earth). Check for physical damage to the cable jacket.

Inspect the motor terminal box and drive output terminals for any signs of moisture, conductive dust, or debris. Clean thoroughly if contamination is present.

Verify that the drive, motor, and cable shielding are correctly grounded according to manufacturer specifications (e.g., earth impedance < 0.1 ohm).

Temporarily disable earth fault protection (if allowed by safety standards and only for diagnostic purposes, e.g., P5-25 'Earth fault protection') to isolate if the drive itself is faulting.
