Drive over temperature fault

Vacon · NXP AFE-II Drive

¿Qué significa F14 ?

The heatsink temperature of the drive has exceeded its acceptable operating limits, triggering a fault. An overtemperature warning typically precedes the actual trip limit. Sustained high temperatures significantly reduce the lifespan of power semiconductors and other internal components.

Causas comunes

  • Insufficient cooling airflow through the drive heatsink due to blocked vents, dirty cooling fins, or failed cooling fans.
  • High ambient temperature in the control cabinet or room exceeding the drive's maximum operating temperature (e.g., >50°C).
  • Overloading the drive continuously, causing excessive heat generation in the power semiconductors.
  • Malfunctioning heatsink cooling fan(s) (e.g., seized motor, broken blades, electrical failure).
  • Failure of the drive's internal temperature sensor, providing an incorrect high-temperature reading.

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

Measure the ambient temperature inside the control cabinet using a calibrated thermometer. Verify it is within the drive's specified operating range (e.g., 0°C to 50°C).

  2. 2

Inspect drive cooling fans for proper operation (audible, visible rotation) and check heatsink fins for dust, debris, or blockages. Clean with compressed air if necessary (ensure power off).

  3. 3

Verify the motor load current (e.g., Menu 1-04 'Motor Current') is not consistently exceeding the drive's nominal output current (Ih) rating. Reduce load if necessary.

  4. 4

Check the drive's heatsink temperature reading in the diagnostics menu (e.g., Menu 1-30 'Heatsink temperature'). Compare to observed conditions.

  5. 5

Ensure adequate ventilation in the control cabinet. Verify filters on cabinet vents are clean and cooling systems (e.g., AC unit, heat exchanger) are operational.

  6. 6

Test the drive cooling fans by applying appropriate voltage (if safely accessible) or using drive diagnostic functions to force fan operation (e.g., Menu 15-XX 'Fan test'). Replace faulty fans.
