What does BUS mean?

A BUS fault indicates an issue with the communication option board installed in the drive. This occurs when there's a problem with the drive's ability to communicate over its industrial network (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus). This can be caused by wiring errors, incorrect communication settings, or a hardware failure of the option board itself. Loss of communication means the drive cannot receive commands or send status updates via the network, potentially stopping operations.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect or loose installation of the communication option board in the drive's expansion slot, preventing proper electrical contact.
  • Physical damage to the communication option board itself (e.g., bent pins, component failure).
  • Incorrect network wiring (e.g., reversed data lines, missing termination resistor, ground loop) causing communication errors.
  • Mismatched communication parameters between the drive (e.g., H5-xx parameters) and the master controller (e.g., PLC), such as baud rate, node address, or data format.

    Power down the drive, remove the communication option board, inspect its connector for damage, and firmly reinsert it into the drive's expansion slot.

    Verify the integrity of the network cable connected to the option board, checking for cuts, proper shielding, and correct pinout (e.g., RS485 A/B, Ethernet T/R pairs).

    Confirm network termination resistors are correctly applied at both ends of the communication bus (if applicable, e.g., Modbus RTU, Profibus).
