Motor overtemperature

Vacon · NXP/C

What does 16 mean?

The frequency converter's internal motor temperature model has detected overheating in the motor, typically due to prolonged overload. Continued operation under this condition will damage motor windings and insulation.

Common Causes

  • Motor winding temperature exceeds limit.
  • Overload condition sustained for too long (P1-07).
  • Faulty motor temperature sensor (PTC or KTY).
  • Inadequate motor cooling (e.g., blocked fan).
  • High ambient temperature around the motor.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Decrease the mechanical load on the motor to bring its operating current within nominal limits.

  2. 2

If no apparent motor overload exists, review and adjust the motor temperature model parameters (e.g., motor nominal current, thermal time constant) within the frequency converter's settings to ensure they accurately reflect the motor's characteristics.
