Keypad Communication Fault

Vacon · 100 FLOW Application Guide

What does 52 mean?

The connection between the control panel (keypad) and the drive is defective, preventing proper communication. This could be due to a faulty cable, improper seating of the keypad, or a damaged control panel itself. Loss of communication means the drive cannot be controlled or monitored via the keypad.

Common Causes

  • The communication cable between the control panel (keypad) and the drive is damaged, loose, or incorrectly connected.
  • The control panel (keypad) hardware itself is faulty or has internal component damage.
  • Damage to the drive's internal communication port or its associated circuitry on the control board.
  • High levels of electromagnetic interference (EMI) disrupting the serial communication signals between the keypad and drive.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Power down the drive, then disconnect and firmly re-seat the keypad cable at both the drive's communication port and the keypad module.

  2. 2

    2. Inspect the keypad cable for any visible damage (e.g., cuts, pinched sections, bent pins at connectors) and replace it if defects are found.

  3. 3

    3. If using a remote keypad, ensure the cable length does not exceed the manufacturer's specified maximum for reliable data transmission.

  4. 4

    4. Temporarily connect a different, known good keypad to the drive's communication port to isolate whether the original keypad is faulty.

  5. 5

    5. Check for strong EMI sources near the keypad communication cable and reroute the cable if necessary, ensuring proper shielding and grounding practices.
