F13.19

Permanent low level in data line

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does F13.19 mean?

The data signal from Encoder 1 is persistently at a low level. This typically points to a wiring issue or a defect within the encoder unit, resulting in lost or incorrect position feedback and impacting precise drive control.

Common Causes

  • Open circuit in the Encoder 1 data line (DATA+) or DATA- wiring between the encoder and the drive input terminal X1.
  • Short circuit between the Encoder 1 data line (DATA+) or DATA- and 0V (ground) or shield.
  • Internal failure of the Encoder 1 output stage, leading to a collapsed data signal.
  • Insufficient encoder supply voltage (e.g., below 8VDC) provided by the drive's 10V or 24V supply to Encoder 1.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Power down the drive, disconnect Encoder 1 cable from terminal X1, and measure resistance between DATA+ and 0V.

  2. 2

Verify continuity of the Encoder 1 data lines (DATA+ and DATA-) and their respective return paths from encoder connector to drive terminal X1 using a multimeter.

  3. 3

Measure the supply voltage for Encoder 1 at the encoder's power input terminals (e.g., +10V or +24V to 0V).

  4. 4

Using an oscilloscope, monitor the data line signal (DATA+ and DATA- differential) at terminal X1 while slowly rotating the motor shaft.

  5. 5

Exchange Encoder 1 with a known-good encoder of the same type and test system operation.
