E46.2

Invalid variant

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does E46.2 mean?

The installed safety option variant is incompatible with the inverter type, or an incorrect variant (e.g., with an encoder interface on a double axis system) has been plugged in. This prevents the safety functions from operating and inhibits the output stage, requiring immediate correction for functionality.

Common Causes

  • Installation of a safety option card designed for a different inverter family or physical size.
  • Safety option card with incorrect functionality (e.g., single-axis card on a dual-axis system) for the application.
  • Misconfiguration of the inverter's base parameters (e.g., P0-10 Motor type, P0-11 Control mode) conflicting with the safety option's capabilities.
  • Firmware on the safety option card is not compatible with the inverter's main firmware version.
  • Damage to the EEPROM or ID chip on the safety option card leading to incorrect variant identification.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the part number and variant code of the installed safety option card against the inverter's compatibility list in the manual.

  2. 2

Ensure the inverter's base configuration parameters (e.g., P0-10, P0-11) align with the expected system setup for the safety option.

  3. 3

Check the documentation for any specific firmware requirements for both the inverter and the safety option card.

  4. 4

If multiple safety options are available, try a different, known-compatible card to isolate the fault.

  5. 5

Visually inspect the safety option card for any physical damage, particularly around memory or identification chips.
