Safety circuit fault

Mitsubishi Electric · FR-A800 Variable Speed Drive (Separated Converter)

What does E.SAF mean?

This fault indicates an issue with the FR-A800/A800 Plus Series drive's internal safety stop function (safety circuit). The drive enters a safe state and output is shut off, as required by safety standards, to prevent hazardous conditions.

Common Causes

  • Discrepancy or failure in the input signals to the safety circuit (S1, S2).
  • Internal malfunction of the safety circuit components within the drive.
  • Incorrect wiring or external shorting of the safety input terminals S1, S2, PC, and SIC, SD.
  • The internal testing or monitoring function of the safety circuit detects an anomaly.
  • External wiring to the safety output (So/SAFE signal) has a fault.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify that terminals S1 and S2 are correctly wired and that the signals applied to them (ON/OFF states) are consistent with the desired safe state for operation.

  2. 2

If the safety stop function is not used, ensure that terminals S1 and PC, S2 and PC, and SIC and SD are correctly shorted with the provided shorting wires (as per page 60).

  3. 3

Check the wiring of the safety output signal (So/SO/SAFE) if it's assigned and used (refer to Pr.190 to Pr.196 settings on page 60).

  4. 4

Perform a thorough inspection of all wiring related to the safety circuit for any damage, loose connections, or incorrect terminations.

  5. 5

If the fault persists and all external wiring is confirmed correct, the internal safety circuit of the FR-A800/A800 Plus Series drive may be faulty, requiring professional service or unit replacement.
