Instantaneous Power Failure

Mitsubishi Electric · FR-A800 Troubleshooting Course

What does E.IPF mean?

This fault indicates that the FR-A800 inverter detected an instantaneous loss or significant sag of the incoming AC power supply voltage. The inverter has tripped to protect itself and the motor from unstable operation.

Common Causes

  • Momentary interruption or significant voltage sag in the main AC power supply.
  • Loose power supply wiring or poor contact at the main circuit breaker/contactor.
  • Overloaded power supply causing voltage dips.
  • Sensitivity setting for instantaneous power failure detection (e.g., parameter F014 (Pr.15)) is too high.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check the incoming AC power supply for stability and voltage fluctuations using a multimeter or power quality analyzer.

  2. 2

Inspect all main power circuit wiring and connections (R1/L11, S1/L21, T1/L31) to the FR-A800 inverter, including the upstream circuit breaker and contactor.

  3. 3

Ensure the power supply capacity is adequate for the FR-A800 inverter and its connected load.

  4. 4

Adjust instantaneous power failure detection parameters (e.g., F014 (Pr.15) (Instantaneous power failure detection level)) if the trip is too sensitive to normal power fluctuations.

  5. 5

Consider implementing a ride-through function (if available and configured) or a UPS for critical applications if momentary power failures are common.
