F246

Max signal frequency of encoder 2 exceeded

Indramat · CLM01.3-M Flying Cutoff Control

What does F246 mean?

The signal frequency of the optional encoder (encoder 2) has exceeded the maximum allowed frequency of the encoder interface. If P-0-0185 (Function of encoder 2) is set to 4 (spindle encoder), only the position status of the optional encoder is cleared to 0. Otherwise, F246 is generated, and the position status is cleared to 0.

Common Causes

  • Encoder speed is too high for the selected encoder type or the interface limits of the Indramat DIAX04 SSE-03VRS drive controller.
  • Incorrect encoder resolution configured in parameters, leading to an artificially high signal frequency.
  • Incorrect parameter P-0-0185 setting not matching the application (e.g., not set for spindle encoder when it should be).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the maximum permissible signal frequency for the Indramat DIAX04 SSE-03VRS encoder interface and the specific encoder 2 model used.

  2. 2

Check the mechanical speed of the motor or spindle connected to encoder 2. Ensure it does not exceed the maximum operational speed specified for the encoder.

  3. 3

Review the encoder resolution and scaling parameters in the Indramat DIAX04 SSE-03VRS drive controller. Correct any settings that may cause an erroneously high calculated signal frequency.

  4. 4

Examine parameter P-0-0185 (Function of encoder 2). If encoder 2 is used as a spindle encoder, ensure this parameter is set to 4. Adjust the parameter if it's incorrect for the application.

  5. 5

Consider using an encoder with a lower resolution if the mechanical speed cannot be reduced, or if the current encoder's resolution and the drive's interface limits are incompatible.
