Torque Limit Exceeded
Danfoss · VLT Micro Drive FC 51
What does 40 mean?
This fault indicates that the drive has reached its configured torque limit. This could be due to the motor trying to accelerate or run a load that exceeds the drive's or motor's torque capabilities, or it might be intentionally set to protect mechanical components. Prolonged operation at or above the torque limit can lead to instability or mechanical stress.
Common Causes
- Parameter P2-06 (Torque Limit) set too low for the application's required acceleration or running torque.
- Mechanical obstruction or increased friction in the driven load, requiring more torque than available.
- Motor or driven equipment operating beyond its rated capacity (e.g., pumping highly viscous fluid).
- Drive current limit (P2-03) set too low, restricting the maximum output torque capability.
- Incorrect motor tuning (e.g., auto-tune not performed or failed) leading to insufficient torque delivery.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Observe the load during operation for any mechanical binding or excessive resistance.
- 2
Review Parameter P2-06 (Torque Limit) and adjust upwards if necessary, ensuring it does not exceed motor/drive limits.
- 3
Monitor the drive's output current (e.g., via display parameter D0-02) during operation to assess load.
- 4
Verify Parameter P2-03 (Current Limit) is set to 100% or higher if the application demands high torque.
- 5
Perform a motor auto-tune (Parameter P6-01) to optimize motor control and torque delivery.
