Heatsink temperature low

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Drive FC 102

What does 66 mean?

The frequency converter's heatsink temperature, measured by a sensor in the IGBT module, is too low for safe operation. This indicates the unit is too cold to operate efficiently or without condensation risk. Operation at extremely low temperatures can affect component reliability and performance.

Common Causes

  • Ambient temperature of the enclosure is consistently below the drive's minimum operating specification (e.g., 0°C).
  • Heatsink temperature sensor (thermistor or RTD) has failed or provides an inaccurate low reading.
  • Excessive cooling system capacity causing the heatsink temperature to drop too low, potentially causing condensation.
  • Unexpected cold air draft directly on the heatsink, bypassing enclosure thermal management.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Measure the ambient temperature within the control cabinet using a calibrated thermometer.

  2. 2

    2. Verify the heatsink temperature reading in parameter P16-30 (Heatsink temperature) against a known reference.

  3. 3

    3. Adjust enclosure heating or ventilation systems to maintain ambient temperature above 5°C to prevent condensation.

  4. 4

    4. Inspect the heatsink temperature sensor connection on the control board for continuity and secure seating.
