Flash EEPROM Fault (Control Card)

Danfoss · VLT 2800 Variable Speed Drive

What does 38 mean?

A fault has been detected in the Flash EEPROM on the control card. This memory stores critical firmware and configuration data, so an error here can corrupt drive operations or prevent the drive from booting correctly. It's a hardware failure on the control card.

Common Causes

  • Corruption of critical firmware or configuration data stored in the Flash EEPROM due to power supply transients or voltage sags.
  • Degradation or physical damage to the Flash EEPROM chip itself (e.g., due to excessive write cycles or thermal stress).
  • An interrupted or failed firmware update procedure, leaving the EEPROM in an inconsistent state.
  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) event on the control card, causing bit errors or damage to the EEPROM's memory cells.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Power cycle the drive and attempt to re-flash the control card firmware using the designated service tool or interface.

  2. 2

    2. Measure the auxiliary control card power supply voltage (e.g., 5VDC or 3.3VDC test points) for stability during operation.

  3. 3

    3. Attempt to load a default parameter set (e.g. Parameter P1-00 = 1) if the drive allows partial access.

  4. 4

    4. Replace the control card if the Flash EEPROM fault persists after firmware re-flash and power supply verification.
