Default communication profile configuration (DEFAULT_COMMS)

ABB · Application Error ABB Motion Drives Error trouble shoo

What does 9 mean?

This is a normal state during boot-up but should not persist permanently. If the drive remains in this state, it indicates an issue with the encoder configuration or general drive parameter configuration preventing the system from loading its intended communication profile.

Common Causes

  • Encoder configuration is different with the hardware type (FB-xx).
  • Drive's parameter configuration file is corrupted or causing a problem.
  • Firmware issues preventing the proper loading of communication profiles.
  • Memory module issues affecting parameter storage and retrieval.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Correct the encoder configuration to ensure it matches the specific hardware type (FB-xx) and then power cycle the drive.

  2. 2

Put the drive into recovery mode, power cycle it, then use Mint Workbench to access the file manager (MFE180) and delete the cmcf file.

  3. 3

Power up the drive after deleting the cmcf file to revert it to factory default status, then re-commission or download a previously saved parameter (PTX) file.

  4. 4

If the problem persists after these steps, replace the drive unit.
