What does 8 mean?

This is a normal state during boot-up but should not persist permanently. If the drive remains in this state, it indicates an issue with the memory module, firmware, or connected external hardware, preventing it from transitioning to an operational state. Note: This state also indicates the drive is enabled, so distinguish from a normal enabled state.

Common Causes

  • Memory module not correctly fitted or damaged.
  • Corrupt firmware or issues during firmware loading.
  • Problematic external connections, such as to an RTE master, causing boot-up issues.
  • Damaged encoder dragging down the control board voltage.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Power down the drive, then remove and re-seat the memory module, ensuring it is correctly fitted.

  2. 2

Disconnect any external connections, such as to an RTE master, and power cycle the drive.

  3. 3

Disconnect the encoder connection, as a damaged encoder can potentially reduce the control board voltage during boot.

  4. 4

Power up the drive again after performing the above steps and observe the state.

  5. 5

If the problem persists after these checks, replace the drive unit.
