EFB load fault
ABB · ACS580
What does 6684 mean?
The embedded fieldbus (EFB) protocol firmware could not be loaded, or there is a version mismatch between the EFB protocol firmware and the main drive firmware. This critical error prevents the EFB from functioning, thus disabling fieldbus communication.
Common Causes
- EFB option module firmware is corrupted or incomplete due to an interrupted update or memory error.
- Main drive firmware version is incompatible with the installed EFB protocol firmware version (e.g., main firmware v3.x and EFB firmware v2.x).
- EFB option module hardware fault preventing proper firmware loading during drive startup.
- Incorrect EFB protocol package selected for download or stored on the drive's memory during a firmware update procedure.
- Insufficient memory available on the EFB module or main control board to load the protocol firmware.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Record current drive and EFB firmware versions (e.g., from P0-01 and P0-02) for reference.
- 2
Download the compatible EFB protocol firmware package for the drive's main firmware version from the manufacturer's website.
- 3
Attempt to re-flash the EFB protocol firmware using the drive's flashing utility (e.g., via Drive Composer through USB or Ethernet).
- 4
Power down the drive, remove the EFB option module, inspect its connectors for damage, and re-insert it firmly into its slot.
- 5
If the fault persists after re-flashing and re-seating, replace the EFB option module.
